LEHIGH VALLEY WEATHER

UPPER AND LOWER MILFORD COLUMN

The weekly gospel concerts at Milford Park have begun.

Damaris Carbaugh, former soloist with the Brooklyn Tabernacle Choir, will perform 7 p.m. July 11.

Organizers of the concerts stress the following: “Our open-air tabernacle provides sufficient space for people to continue to maintain social distancing. Personal protective equipment can be worn based on an individual’s preference. You can also bring your own lawn chairs.”

There will be a limited menu selection available at the snack shop before and after the 7 p.m. concerts. Pre-service meals, which were well received last year, will once again be offered 5:30 p.m. Seating will be available at the open-air pavilion.

All programs and services are open to everyone and will take place rain or shine. A freewill offering will be taken. Milford Park is located on Routes 29 and 100 in Zionsville. For more information, call 610-966-4240.

The entire summer schedule can be viewed at www.milfordpark.org.

Announcements of cancellations due to the coronavirus are still being received. The Vera Cruz Community Association has canceled this year’s Homecoming, which was scheduled for Aug. 16.

In Upper Milford Township, the playgrounds are now open, but with signage reminding people they are at an at-risk and personal responsibility facility. The parks are open per guidance from the state department of health, the township solicitor and the Upper Milford Township Board of Supervisors.

Township offices are open for in-person service with protections in place and masks required. Staff ask only one person at a time be in the vestibule area and only one at the window at a time. The drop box is still outside for anyone who does not feel comfortable coming inside and township staff can assist by email or phone.

In-person meetings have resumed within the township’s larger auditorium, with social distancing and masks. No non-essential meetings are being held, so everyone should check the township website or call for information on cancellations.

The township is not taking reservations for park pavilions or the auditorium for the remainder of 2020.

The Upper Milford Township Historical Society is scheduled to hold a picnic and bell dedication 6 p.m. July 30 at 5671 Chestnut St., Old Zionsville. Check www.uppermilford.org for more information.

According to the Lower Milford Township calendar, the board of supervisors will meet 6:30 p.m. July 2, the planning commission will meet 6:30 p.m. July 6 and the recreation and open space committee will meet 7 p.m. July 8. However, check with the township to make sure these meetings will be held. The township office is closed July 3.

Don’t forget that the Zionsville Food Pantry is asking for help to collect personal care items for our neighbors. The collection box will be outside the Upper Milford Township office doors. The pantry is in need of the following items: toothpaste, single packaged toothbrushes, body wash, shampoo and deodorant.

St. Peter’s Union Church, which has been holding online worship services since the onset of the pandemic, will begin holding outdoor worship 9 a.m. July 12. The services will be subject to Centers for Disease Control guidelines for safe gatherings, so everyone is asked to wear a mask and observe social distancing. There will also be no singing out loud. In the event of bad weather, the service will either be halted or canceled, not moved indoors.

The pandemic has also forced St. Peter’s to cancel its vacation Bible school in June and its community meals until November or December. Christmas in July has also been canceled.

The Lower Lehigh AARP, Chapter 4150, normally meets the first Thursday of the month in the Upper Milford Township municipal building. They normally do not meet in July and August. If you would like more information, contact Dorothy at 610-967-3284.

The Ladies Auxiliary of Citizens Fire Company of Vera Cruz usually meets 7:30 p.m. the last Tuesday of the month at the Vera Cruz Fire Department Social Hall. There is no meeting July 28 and members are debating whether to hold a picnic in July. Look for information on that soon. The next regular meeting will be Aug. 25.
