Student earns college degree

Josephine Parlaine Steidinger of Germansville graduated magna cum laude on May 9 from North Carolina State University, Raleigh, N.C., with a Bachelor of Science degree in biomedical engineering and a minor in biological science.

During her four years at NC State, Steidinger worked as an administrative mentor for the Engineering Village, an ambassador for the College of Engineering and a research scholar at Lehigh Valley Hospital’s Children’s Cancer Center.

Steidinger participated in research in the psychology and biology departments at NC State.

She spent two spring breaks on service trips.

One in Orlando, Fla., volunteering with Give Kids the World and one trip to Antigua, Guatemala, volunteering at a pediatric malnutrition hospital.

Steidinger was the founding president of Events for Give Kids the World at NC State, an organization she created her freshman year after her first service trip.

Steidinger was a member of Scholars, Engineering World Health, and received the Kay Yow Spirit of the Village award her freshman year for best exemplifying qualities of service and leadership.

She plans to attend medical school in the upcoming year.

She is the daughter of Mark and Elena Steidinger of Germansville.
