Summer fun at YMCA camp

Suburban North Family YMCA, Catasauqua, opened its summer camp June 8, providing campers an opportunity to enjoy STEM activities, games, arts and crafts, sports, fun and fellowship.

Camp Director Devon Whiteman expressed satisfaction about the camp and what she and the counselors are trying to do to make the camp an unforgettable experience for the campers.

Camp is 9 a.m.-4 p.m. Mondays through Fridays. Parents can bring children to the YMCA as early as 6:30 a.m. to accommodate work schedules.

Arts and crafts are a big hit with the campers, offering an outlet for creativity. They will learn how to make sidewalk chalk for use in creating sidewalk art.

Kick ball, water games and other fun forms of exercise are also part of the camp schedule.

With campers coming from a number of surrounding municipalities, the camp provides an opportunity to make new friends.

The camp continues through Aug. 20.

The YMCA has also teamed up with Common Market Share Farm. Common Market sends the YMCA 70 large boxes of fresh vegetables every Thursday for free distribution to those in need. A volunteer is on hand to distribute the food.

Common Market’s mission is “delivering local food for the common good.” To learn more about Common Market, visit thecommonmarket.org.
