LEHIGH VALLEY WEATHER

EASTERN SALISBURY COLUMN

Maybe we are moving in the right direction…we finally have a date for Lehigh County to go GREEN!

We all know there will still be stipulations on what we can and cannot do safely but it is one step closer.

I’m pondering what our new “normal” will look like as we move forward. Please remember for the time being, most activities are asking for social distancing procedures to continue to be followed.

Eastern Salisbury Fire Department will host a PPL Live Line Electrical Safety Exhibit 6:30 p.m. July 13.

The event will be held at Harry S Truman Elementary School, 1400 Gaskill Ave., with a rain location of Eastern Salisbury Fire Department, 1000 E. Emmaus Ave.

The exhibit includes a 7,200-volt electrical distribution grid featuring live electrical wires, utility poles and transformers. Using ladders, gloves, shovels and other tools in a controlled environment, trained PPL staff wearing protective equipment will recreate sparks, flames, smoke and crackling that occurs when those items come in contact with live electrical lines. They will also show what occurs when a tree branch and balloons come in contact with wires. This exhibit is used to educate customers, students, first responders and the general public about the dangers associated with electricity and contact with electrical lines and components.

If you are interested in attending, visit the Eastern Salisbury Fire Department Facebook page and respond as going to the event so organizers can plan for the number attending.

St. Luke’s sports physicals will be offered free to all St. Luke’s affiliated programs at Coca Cola Park in Allentown.

Sports physicals will be offered 2 to 8 p.m. June 24 and 25 and 9 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. July 11.

A link for additional information is available on the Salisbury Township School District website.

Student athletes must pre-register and bring PIAA Section 5 and 6 with them. Students who plan to participate in a fall/winter/spring 2020-2021 sport at either Salisbury Middle School or Salisbury High School may register and receive a physical.

SMS/SHS marching band members and twirlers also may register and receive a physical. If you do not have PIAA forms, they can be found on the Salisbury Township School District website or extra forms will be provided on site.

This event is rain or shine and will follow social distancing guidelines. All student athletes should bring and wear masks.

At this time, the yard waste sites will be open 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. Monday and Thursday, 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. Tuesday, Wednesday and Friday and 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday. The sites will alternate weeks. The Devonshire site will be open the week of June 22. Updates regarding the openings will be posted as Salisbury Township releases them.
