It was reported the Race Street bridge would reopen June 4 after more than two years of construction. However, plans changed following a final inspection of the construction work.
“There was a snag that developed,” Catasauqua Borough Council President Vincent Smith said.
According to Councilwoman Deb Mellish, Pennsylvania Department of Transportation inspected the bridge only to discover construction irregularities that caused a failed inspection.
Borough Manager Steven Travers was unavailable for comment.
According to Mellish, the bridge may be open within two weeks.
Council voted unanimously at the June 1 council meeting to send PennDOT a letter of complaint regarding the delays and lack of communication with council. Completion was expected about a year ago.
