Pool will remain closed for season

Youngsters in Catasauqua Borough may have had a mild adrenaline rush after they saw the pool at Catasauqua Park and Playground, 501 American St., filled with water. The pool and its campus did, in fact, look wonderful and inviting. However, borough officials have reiterated the pool is closed and will remain that way for the summer.

The pool was filled with water so that a dye can be placed in the pool to ascertain where a leak is. A slow leak has been present for a number of years.

With Pennsylvania Gov. Tom Wolf restricting park usage throughout the commonwealth, having the pool open was not an option. Social distancing, masking and limitations on the number of patrons in the pool area sealed the closing decision.

Catasauqua Borough Council President Vince Smith expressed disappointment in having the pool closed because of the pandemic. However, he noted with the pool down for the season, numerous other repairs can be done to improve the pool and surrounding grounds.
