Chamber announces 2020 scholarship recipients
The Greater Northern Lehigh Chamber of Commerce recently announced recipients of the 2020 Chamber Scholarship.
Introduced in 2017, the Greater Northern Lehigh Chamber of Commerce Scholarship Foundation was set to serve college bound students in the five school districts of Northern Lehigh, Northwestern Lehigh, Northampton Area, Parkland and Lehigh Career Technical Institute.
Local 2020 recipients of this $500 scholarship include: Jacob Dellicker, Northwestern Lehigh; Nathan Green, LCTI and Northern Lehigh; and Samuel Weaber, Northern Lehigh.
Applicants must use the funds to continue their education and must have a clean school record with no disciplinary infractions.
Additionally, each student must have at least a “C” grade average or better and be involved with extracurricular activities and show work and/or volunteer experience.
“Members of the Greater Northern Lehigh Chamber of Commerce are committed to our communities in many ways, and our scholarship fund is supported by our members and board of directors through the various fundraising efforts during the year,” said Andy Gildner, board chair of Greater Northern Lehigh Chamber and owner of Keystone Technology LLC.
“We had many applications, helping to concrete our belief that this scholarship is a necessary and welcome tool for our students.
“Our board and members are committed to helping further the educational opportunities available to our local students, and we personally congratulate our scholarship winners.”
Each recipient graduated in 2020 with excellent academic records and will continue on to higher education.
Jacob Dellicker, of Northwestern School District, will study entrepreneurship at Grove City College.
Jacob has been active in his church, as well as volunteered at the Special Olympics and in clearing trails at Hawk Mountain.
Additionally, Jacob served as varsity captain of the golf team, senior captain of the wrestling team, as well as playing on the baseball team. He also served as Student Council president.
“As Student Council president, I organized various events such as the pep rally and Mr. Northwestern, an annual charity pageant that occurs each year at our school,” Jacob said. “I am also the founder of Dellicker Brothers LLC, where I am both owner and manager of the business operations. I am responsible for coordinating job sites and giving pricing estimates, as well as managing the day-to-day operations of the company.”
Nathan Green, who attends LCTI and Northern Lehigh, will study computer engineering at Drexel University in the fall and is extremely active within the Northern Lehigh community, including helping to organize the Northern Lehigh Food Bank Gift Drive, which distributes gifts to families in need during Christmas.
Nathan also participated in the Patriot Club, which fundraises and holds events to honor local veterans, as well as served on the debate team and National Honor Society.
He also played baseball for Northern Lehigh.
“This sport taught me the importance of teamwork and trust within a group of people,” Green said.
Samuel Weaber, of Northern Lehigh, will attend Lehigh Carbon Community College in the fall to begin his degree in mechanical engineering technology.
“I volunteer at my church to run cameras for the services, special conferences, concerts and special events,” stated Weaber in his application. “In the past, recordings were used on WFMZ Channel 69’s Statement of Faith program, and now is used to do a livestream.”
Samuel interned with Dorward Electric Corp., Slatington, and now works there part-time.
The scholarship recipients will be celebrated, with their families, at the Chamber’s fourth annual William George Mini Golf Tournament on Aug. 6.
The family-friendly event will be held at Bear Rock Junction Mini Golf in New Tripoli and is a fundraiser for the Greater Northern Lehigh Scholarship fund.
