One person died and at least one other person was injured in an explosion at a structure on a property in the 8400 block of Orchard Road, Lower Milford Township, June 9.

Brian Ehret, 50, was pronounced dead in the backyard of his residence by Deputy Coroner Rachel Tallarico 4:47 p.m. June 9, according to a media release from the Lehigh County Coroner’s Office and Forensics Center.

According to a media release from Pennsylvania State Police Troop M Trooper Nathan T. Branosky, state troopers were dispatched to 8439 Orchard Road 3:06 p.m. for an explosion.

Investigators determined the explosion occurred inside a Conex shipping container on the property where fireworks were stored.

An autopsy conducted June 11 revealed Ehret died of multiple traumatic injuries due to the explosion and the manner of death was ruled an accident, according to a representative from the coroner’s office.

An individual also was transported to Lehigh Valley Hospital, Cedar Crest, at the time of the incident, according to police.

Numerous fire departments and emergency medical personnel from the area responded to the scene.

Lehigh County Special Operations, the Pennsylvania State Police Troop M Fire Marshal, Forensic Services unit, Criminal Investigative unit, the Pennsylvania State Police Hazardous Device and Explosives unit and the Federal Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives are among investigating agencies, according to state police.

In an email to The Press June 15, Branosky noted the Troop M Fire Marshal and ATF are working together to determine whether residential or commercial fireworks were stored in the container where the explosion occurred.

“Facing the residence from the roadway, we know the blast occurred in the rear of the conex that was furthest to the left,” Branosky wrote. “In addition, there were fireworks also found inside the garage,” he continued.

Officials closed the areas of Spinnerstown Road and Orchard Road and School House Lane and Orchard Road while investigators worked at the scene.
