Resurrected Life Community Church, Promise Neighborhoods Lehigh Valley, Faces International, Martin Luther and Coretta Scott - King Memorial Project, Make the Road PA, and Lehigh Valley Stands Up will host a Juneteenth Freedom Celebration from 5 to 7 p.m. on June 19 at the Resurrected Life Community Church parking lot, 144 N. Ninth St., Allentown and on Facebook Live.
Two and a half years after the Emancipation Proclamation was signed on September 22, 1862 (effective January 1, 1863), the last slaves in Texas finally heard that they had been freed on June 19, 1865. This is the day the black community truly celebrates freedom from slavery because, “We are not truly free until we are all free!”
All are welcome to join. Social distancing measures will be put in place and masks will be made available for those who don’t have any. People who are unable to leave their homes may join on Facebook Live video during the event.
