LEHIGH VALLEY WEATHER

EASTERN SALISBURY COLUMN

We have officially survived the end of the 2020 school year!

All devices are turned in and summer vacation has officially started.

Although this summer may look a little different, I for one am glad that the school year has wrapped up. Congratulations and best wishes on your next steps to the graduating Class of 2020.

The curriculum and technology meeting originally scheduled for June 8 has been rescheduled for June 22. This meeting will again occur virtually and registration information will be displayed on the district website and Facebook page 48 hours in advance. The meeting will begin promptly 7 p.m. and the regular school board meeting will occur immediately afterward via Zoom.

Eastern Salisbury Fire Department will host a PPL Live Line Electrical Safety Exhibit 6:30 p.m. July 13. The event will be held at Harry S Truman Elementary School with a rain location of Eastern Salisbury Fire Department. The exhibit includes a 7,200-volt electrical distribution grid featuring live electrical wires, utility poles and transformers. Using ladders, gloves, shovels and other tools in a controlled environment, trained PPL staff wearing protective equipment will recreate sparks, flames, smoke and crackling that occurs when those items come in contact with live electrical lines. They will also show what occurs when a tree branch and balloons come in contact with wires. This exhibit is used to educate customers, students, first responders and the general public about the dangers associated with electricity and contact with electrical lines and components. If you are interested in attending, visit the Eastern Salisbury Fire Department Facebook page and respond going to their event so they can try to plan for the number attending. As the event gets closer, please refer to the Eastern Salisbury Fire Department Facebook page for social distancing guidelines that will need to be followed at that time.

At this time, the yard waste sites will be open 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. Monday and Thursday, 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. Tuesday, Wednesday and Friday and 8 a.m. until 1 p.m. Saturday. They will alternate weeks. The Devonshire site will be open the weeks of June 8 and 22 and Franko Farm will be open the week of June 15.
