Bath honors Class of 2020 with parade

Derek Richline is a member of the Northampton Area High School’s Class of 2020 and was a high honors student for three years. He belongs to a proud fourth-generation Bath family with a keen interest in education.

As Richline transitions out of high school, he is very happy and looks forward to his next educational endeavor. He will begin fall studies at Florida Institute of Technology in Melbourne, Fla. His major is aerospace engineering.

One of Richline’s relatives, Jim Pail, was a social studies teacher and did many other things in the Northampton Area School District for 36 years.

Richline is just one of the many Class of 2020 members who missed out on end-of-year traditions and events due to the COVID-19 pandemic. High school seniors across the country missed out on traditional commencements, prom, awards ceremonies and scholarship events.

Bath Borough Council, led by Phyllis Andrews and Michele Ehrgott, assembled a parade June 6 for the 25 graduating seniors who reside in the borough. Bath Mayor Fiorella Reginelli-Mirabito marketed the event.

Council and the mayor personally funded the event, purchasing gifts and balloons. Hayes Flowers donated the flowers, and Bath Borough Fire Department members donated their time and equipment.

The parade included the fire department, Hayes and other interested parties. The parade drove to the graduating seniors’ homes to deliver flowers, gifts and a heartfelt congratulations on their academic achievements.

Twenty-three upcoming NAHS graduates and two upcoming Bethlehem Catholic High School graduates were honored.

The two Bethlehem Catholic students honored were Paige Muthur and Nicholas Casso.

NAHS students honored were Conner Anderson, Adam Aviles, Jayden Bell, Jasmine Bond, Benjamin Christy, McKenzie Cushing, Andrea Decker, Alexa Ehrgott, Datez Flelds, Yazen Ghaith, Jaylin Guerrera, Jessica Haynes, Alexa Madurski, Makayla McGaughran, Danny Neidert, Autumn Orlando, Sophia Passarella, Derek Richline, Emilio Salinas Gonzalez, Samantha Shock, Donovan Smith, Jarrett Weiss and Suhas Halamarti.
