WESTERN SALISBURY COLUMN

June 3 is the big day –the day the school board votes whether to close Western Salisbury Elementary School and have all the township students attend Harry S Truman Elementary School or keep WSE open and let there be two community elementary schools.

There is a document on the school website to answer questions about the proposed reconfiguration. Log onto www.salisburysd.org/news for the grade reconfiguration Q&A.

The elementary schools will start and end at a new time for the 2020-2021 school year. Rather than the doors opening 8:30 a.m. they will now open 8:45 a.m., which means dismissal will be 3:30 p.m. instead of 3:15 p.m. The reasoning behind this is to give more time between the middle school and elementary afternoon runs.

The summer reading program for Salisbury Township School District will look a little different this summer.

The library will not be open certain days throughout the summer. Instead, between June 1-5, students will choose 10 available books through the Destiny catalog they wish to check out for the summer. The books will be available for pick up June 10 to 13. The books will be loaned for the entire summer and will be due Sept. 18, or when students return to school.

Instructions for this process are posted on the Salisbury Township School District website under NEWS.

Salisbury Township yard waste drop-off sites will have evening and Saturday hours during June. Whichever drop-off site is scheduled for a given week will be open 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. Tuesday, Wednesday and Friday, 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. Monday and Thursday and 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday.

Franko Farm is open the weeks of June 1 and 15. Devonshire is open the weeks of June 8 and 22.

Proof of residence and a mask will be required at the drop-off sites.
