School District News

Northwestern Lehigh School District Superintendent Jennifer L. Holman provided the following updated COVID-19 letter to parents and staff May 15 on the district’s website.

“I hope you and your families are healthy during these times.

“We want you to know that you and your family’s ongoing safety and well-being continue to be of the utmost importance to us.

“It is hard to believe that it is two months since the governor closed schools in Pennsylvania.

“When schools first closed, we had no idea that instruction would remain online until the end of the school year.

“Over the past eight weeks we each have experienced monumental change - change in our world, change in our families and our communities, and in our education.

“The patience, resilience, and kindness you have shown to one another during this time is what helped everyone get through this together.

“I am writing today to give you a few updates:

“At this week’s school board meeting, the board of directors approved a revised calendar for this school year. The last student day will be June 2.

“Each of the building principals will communicate with you in the next few days about cubbie/locker clean out, medication pick up from our nurses, and the return of Chromebooks, calculators, library books, and textbooks you might have at home.

“Final report cards will include grades for fourth marking period as “Satisfactory” or “Unsatisfactory.”

“Report cards will be available within the Sapphire Parent Portal on June 5.

“The Grab-n-Go meal program’s last serving day will be June 1.

“Families are encouraged to reach out to the Christ’s Church at Lowhill Food Pantry at lowhillfoodpantry.com, if additional assistance is needed.

“Through the federal Families First Coronavirus Response Act of 2020, families who are eligible for free/reduced meals in their school districts can now receive $5.70 per child per day for each missing school day.

The program is called P-EBT and full details can be found at nwlehighsd.org/P-EBT.

“Our teachers and support staff have done an exceptional job transitioning to online learning and providing essential services.

“We have shared some of the online learning experiences on our social media pages to highlight what is happening in our schools during this time.

“Please remember in the last few weeks to continue to reach out to your child’s teachers for assistance, as we finish out the school year.

“We are saddened how the school year has ended for our students. We recognize they have missed many end-of-year festivities and celebrations.

“We are doing our best to virtually celebrate our student’s achievements and milestones, keeping in mind Gov. Wolf’s stay-at-home order and phased reopening plan, as well as strict social distancing guidelines.

“Please continue to be on the lookout for messages from us this summer about the 2020-2021 school year as more information becomes available.”
