MACUNGIE BOROUGH COUNCIL

The Macungie Police Department provided an update about crime in the borough during the virtual meeting May 18. With quarantining continuing, domestic situations are increasing. Sgt. Travis Kocher said one situation included an assault on an officer.

Residents are hosting drive-by birthdays with police often leading parades by the birthday person’s house.

All police vehicles are being disinfected once a week or more frequently when someone is transported.

The Chalk the Walk event scheduled for June 27 has been rescheduled to Aug. 22 with a rain date of Aug. 23.

Council member Roseann Schleicher requested council approve the purchase of nine wreaths for the holiday season. The Town Beautification Committee is assisting with this purchase by providing $2,000 toward the purchase.

The future of the Macungie Institute is still not clear. Efforts to determine the outcome are being considered. Several council members are working on this along with the board of trustees.

The rental agreement with hairdresser Sonya Spots for the 24 S. Church St. location is in process.

Letters have been sent out to residents for sidewalk repairs to assist in the completion of Phase 4 with the Streetscape project.
