The Lower Macungie Library is closed until further notice. Items with a due date starting March 2 will be due May 27. The book drop is locked.

Library cards that will have expired by June will be automatically renewed with a new expiration date of July 1. Library patrons can still access digital services including Overdrive. Other digital resources are available for free during the COVID-19 pandemic. For a full list, go to library website www.lowermaclib.org.

The new date for the Pennsylvania Primary Election is June 2. Mail in ballot options are available. The mail in ballot application must be received by the county election office by 5 p.m. May 26. For more information, go to www.lowermaclib.org or call 1-877-VOTESPA.

The spring book sale has been canceled and book donations have been suspended.

Lower Macungie Township Recreation will hold a virtual fun run/walk on Memorial Day weekend. Participants pledge to walk/run a mile/5K between May 22 and 25 in their neighborhood or treadmill. The Lower Macungie Township pool will be closed for the summer 2020 season due to the need for major repairs and the COVID-19 restrictions.

Lower Macungie Township has canceled June concerts. Information on July and August concerts will be posted at a later date.

Regular trash and recycling collection continue as scheduled. Waste Management has resumed bulk collection services.

Curbside yard waste collection has begun. The calendar is available at www.lowermac.com.

The tax office is closed to the public. Payment and contact information are available on the tax collector page at www.lowermac.com.

Quarry Park and Church Lane Park have been closed. Other parks are open but playground equipment has been roped off. Restroom facilities are closed and trash cans have been removed. Walking trails are open.

The Lower Macungie Community Center is closed. Class participants and renters will be contacted with more information. Staff will be available by phone 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Monday through Friday at 610-966-6924. Updates will also be posted on Facebook and at www.lowermac.com.

Concordia Lutheran Church will hold virtual Vacation Bible School “Rainforest Explorers” with one lesson a week June 28 through Aug. 2. There will be Bible stories, Bible challenges, music, crafts, games, snacks and puppet skits. Enjoy videos and activities from the comfort of your own home. The yard waste hours are 9 a.m. to 7 p.m. Monday, Wednesday and Friday and noon to 7 p.m. Saturday and Sunday through May 31. Yard waste permits are required for drop-off. Starting June 1, the hours will be 9 a.m. to 7 p.m. Monday, Wednesday, Friday and noon to 7 p.m. Saturday and Sunday.

Ben has been working on Boy Scout merit badges. One evening he was putting in some required time on personal management and we had a family discussion about what constituted a major purchase. That led to a conversation on budgeting. Ben was anxious to fill in some items on his worksheet and move on to video games. So when Matt launched into a story about our budgeting experiences, Ben commented, “Well, there goes another 10 minutes.”
