LEHIGH VALLEY WEATHER

Local food bank continues to serve

With unemployment at an all-time high, members of the community have found themselves floating down a stream of uncertainty with their life preservers stuck at shore.

Paychecks have been cut and grocery store shelves are clearing out fast - but Northampton Area Food Bank, 1601 Canal St., is here to help you navigate these rushing waters.

COVID-19 has infiltrated many areas of our lives. Our minds are unsettled, and we might feel ashamed for not being able to provide in many ways. One thing we must remind ourselves is that seeking help is normal and encouraged.

Nonprofit organizations, like food banks, are here to serve you in your time of need. They are judgment-free zones and are not a place to shy away from.

If you are finding yourself in a food crisis during the COVID-19 pandemic, Northampton Area Food Bank is welcoming new clients with open arms. Registration is open 9 a.m.-noon every Wednesday.

Once registered, you will be appointed a day to pick up your food items. Pickup days are 5-7 p.m. each Thursday and 9 a.m.-noon every second and third Saturday of the month.

Helen Crayosky, board member of Northampton Area Food Bank, assures the food bank is following all Centers for Disease Control and Prevention guidelines.

“As long as we have food, we are serving food,” Crayosky said.

Community members who have been sailing these seas with somewhat of a breeze should consider donating to the food bank, as it is currently serving more than 500 families - and that number continues to grow.

For additional information on membership or donations, contact the food bank at 610-262-8030 or info@northamptonareafoodbank.org.
