Upper Macungie awards service citations to former fire chiefs
Jacque Creamer and Leroy Gross were awarded distinguished service citations at the March 5 Upper Macungie supervisors meeting.
Creamer retired as Fogelsville Fire Company chief with eight years of service. Gross was credited with service as fire chief at Station 56 since 2008.
In other matters, the Keep PA Beautiful coalition has contacted the township to urge Upper Macungie’s participation in the project. They will give the township signs to erect at certain spots in the township. Bob Ibach will work with them on this project.
Two resolutions were on the agenda.
The preliminary/final plan for the Motel 6 development was granted approval as was the planning module for the Shoppes at Trexler Plaza.
The bid to rehabilitate the sanitary sewer lateral was given to Doli Construction for a cost of $977,561.
An ordinance, concerned with the creation of a new nonuniform pension plan, will be prepared and advertised.
Lehigh County Executive Phillips Armstrong was at the meeting asking the board to urge residents to fill out their census forms and return the information to the Census Bureau.
A total of 61 building permits were issued along with 15 electrical, six mechanical, one plumbing, nine sewer tapping, three sprinkler and 17 zoning permits.
Six plumbing licenses were issued along with 20 electric and two septic pumper.
Three new single family detached homes were permitted along with eight single family attached.
The code enforcement office has Madeline’s Restaurant, Kuhnsville Auto and the Parkland Fields driveways to deal with.
Two of the malfunctioning speed measuring units along Route 100 have been replaced. A third will be replaced shortly.
Calls for service by the Upper Macungie Police Department totaled 790 with 250 traffic citations coming in second place.
Most reported crimes were disturbing the peace at 17, and DUI offenses at 14.
The K-9 team was busy tracking, checking for drugs, searches, apprehensions, stop assists and one public demonstration. There were three assists for other jurisdictions.
Seventeen trucks were inspected with 28 violations discovered and eight citations issued.
EMS responses by Cetronia were 102 for priority 1; 46 at priority 2; and 58 at priority 3 with two mutual aid assists.
Emergency responses by Fogelsville Station were 23, Trexlertown at 31 and Upper Macungie Township at 40.
Fogelsville did not gain any new members but lost one; Trexlertown lost two while Upper Macungie remained stable.
