LEHIGH VALLEY WEATHER

UPPER AND LOWER MILFORD COLUMN

The COVID-19 virus has wreaked havoc with everyone’s calendars and plans for the next few weeks, at least. I’m reporting what I know of events coming up in May, but given the current uncertainty, I again suggest it would be wise to check with your church or the sponsoring organizations of other events or meetings before you go out.

The Upper Milford Township playgrounds have been closed since late April. The township informs people there had been too much activity on the playground equipment. They understand that families are looking for ways to help themselves and their children release energy, but playdates at the park are not in the best interest of health and safety right now.

The township health department recommends if you do not live together, you stay six feet apart when outside and wear a mask in public. They ask everyone to follow that guidance within the parks while walking the trails.

The Lower Lehigh AARP, Chapter 4150, normally meets noon, the first Thursday of the month, in the Upper Milford Township municipal building. However, they have canceled their meetings for May and June. If you need more information, call Dorothy at 610-967-3284.

They normally do not meet in July and August.

The Upper Milford Fire Department breakfast was canceled in April and May. We have no word yet on whether there will be a breakfast June 8.

The Upper Milford Township Historical Society canceled its April meeting, but at this point, the May 28 meeting is still on. It will feature “A Picture Postcard Tour of Upper and Lower Milford Townships” with Aaron Heckler, who has an extensive postcard collection. Attendees are welcome to bring their own vintage Milford postcards as well.

If the meeting is held, it will be 7 p.m. at the Upper Milford Township building. Check their website at www.uppermilford.org, when it gets closer to the date to see if it has been rescheduled.

The Ladies Auxiliary of Citizens Fire Company of Vera Cruz usually meets 7:30 p.m. the last Tuesday of the month at the Vera Cruz Fire Department Social Hall,. We haven’t received any information about future meetings. For more information, email ladiesaux@vcfd28.com.

Meanwhile, right now, both the Upper Milford and Lower Milford township offices are closed to the public.

Upper Milford residents can still reach the office by email or phone, and there is a drop box for tax payments or permit and application submittals, as well as by mail/fax. The office number is 610-966-3223, the fax is 610-966-5184 and the email address is info@uppermilford.net.

As of now, all nonessential Upper Milford meetings have been canceled, awaiting state and federal guidance.

There are plans to hold the May 7 Upper Milford board of supervisors meeting remotely on Zoom.

Lower Milford Township has also canceled most township meetings until further notice. They are considering holding both the May 21 board of supervisors meeting and a May 27 zoning hearing on Zoom. When those plans become definite, they will be advertised.
