Richard D. Held
Richard D. Held, 94, of New Tripoli, died on May 1, 2020, at home surrounded by his loving family.
He and his late wife, Gladys J. Held, were married more than 66 years, until her death on April 1, 2018.
Born in Allentown, he was a son of the late Alvin J. and Ettamay (LaBarre) Held.
A WWII veteran, he served in the U.S. Navy from 1942-46.
He was a truck driver for Consolidated Freight Ways, Mt. Pocono, until retiring in 1996.
He was a member of Ebenezer United Church of Christ, New Tripoli, the New Tripoli Fire Company, Allen O Delke Legion Post 16, Slatington, and life member of VFW, Post 8344, Schnecksville.
Known as everybody’s grandpa, he was a fun-loving man, who loved to tell stories, watch NASCAR, and cheer on his beloved New York Yankees.
Also an avid hunter and fisherman, he enjoyed playing baseball and golf.
His survivors include daughters Donna J., wife of William Leahy, of North Carolina, and Janice G., wife of Erskine C. Rogers III Esq. of Florida; sons Richard A. Held of New Ringgold, David B. Held of Kempton, and Cory W. Held, of New Tripoli; six grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased by brothers Gerald, Clete, Joseph, Eugene and Courtney Held.
Due to the current health concerns, services will be announced at a later date.
