Pennsylvania State Mayors Association has declared May 3 as Bells Across Pennsylvania Day.
Fiorella Reginelli-Mirabito, Bath Borough mayor and a member of PSMA, said, “I will be declaring this on behalf of our borough.”
All Pennsylvanians and churches are asked to ring bells for three minutes, one minute each for three purposes, starting 7 p.m.
The first purpose is to recognize and honor first responders, health care workers and employees of grocery stores, pharmacies and other life-sustaining businesses who have maintained essential services while at personal risk to COVID-19.
The second purpose is to show solidarity with elected officials and residents across Pennsylvania, all of whom are fighting the pandemic on the front lines.
The third purpose is to demonstrate a collective resolve that Pennsylvanians will prevail over the coronavirus to ensure businesses and civic life will thrive once again.
PSMA was organized in 1971. Its goals are to serve, advocate for and support Pennsylvania mayors throughout the state.
