Northampton Borough Council is expected to soon convene a meeting to address a busy agenda, one that will require council voting on issues, while not compromising the lockdown of borough hall due to the coronavirus pandemic.
Borough Manager LeRoy Brobst said the meeting will be held via telephonic conferencing, allowing council members to remain in their homes for the meeting.
“It’s piling up,” Brobst said of the stack of papers on his desk needing council’s attention. Meetings were canceled in March and the beginning of April.
There was mention Steve Goudsouzian, borough solicitor, is preparing the legal framework for the telephonic conferencing. Brobst said Goudsouzian has gathered information from another municipality in the region that has held such a session.
In order to meet the legal requirements for such a meeting, the borough will advertise a proposed session in a local newspaper. Brobst reported he expects to have a date for the meeting set before the week ends.
Council President Anthony Lopsonzski Jr. has been kept appraised and is in agreement about having such a meeting - the first in the borough’s history.
Present for the meeting will be the eight council members, mayor, solicitor and borough manager.
