E. Allen OKs conditions on Imperial Realty project

East Allen Township Board of Supervisors addressed administrative items at a virtual meeting April 8. The most pressing issue was a hearing on the proposed changes for the Imperial Realty project.

The property, at Route 329 and Airport Road, is zoned commercial. The owners proposed eliminating all the job shop buildings and the strip mall along Route 329. The existing property would be replaced with a single-use warehouse that will cover most of the property. The company will relocate a pizzeria in that mall to the other side of Route 329, where the vacant bank building sits.

In past meetings, the owners proposed various options, settling on the larger warehouse, improved turning lanes to get access to the property and various restrictions designed to control truck traffic at the intersection.

The board of supervisors approved the conditions. There was no public comment.

In his summary, Solicitor Joseph Piperato cautioned this is the first step in the planning process. The proposal needs to go through the Subdivision And Land Development Ordinance process, where the design and layout of the site will be addressed in detail. According to the owners, there is no client for the warehouse, but there are interested parties.

As part of the COVID-19 response, the township will extend its March 19 declaration of disaster emergency until instructed to lift the guidelines imposed by the state.

The township will extend the base tax rate on property until further notice.

Future meetings will be held using the virtual technology until further notice. The schedule for the meetings and the procedure to access the meetings will be posted on the website, eatwp.org.

In other business, the demolition of the main building at the Weaversville Road state hospital is complete and payments were approved. The farmhouse on the property needs to be abated, and then it will be demolished. Work will resume as soon as restrictions are lifted.

First Regional Compost Authority is now open with modifications, viewable at frcaweb.org.
