Jean Elizabeth (Ryan) Maurer, 88, of Center Valley, died March 23, 2020, at St. Luke’s Hospital, Fountain Hill. Born in Bethlehem, she was a daughter of the late Gerald F. and Loretta G. (McGarr) Ryan. She was the wife of the late Francis “Fritz” J. Maurer.
She was a 1947 graduate of Bethlehem Catholic HS. She received a degree from St. Luke’s School of Nursing.
She was a registered nurse. She was the recipient of the DeSales Medal in 2008 for her outstanding contributions to the development of the university through personal service.
She was a member of Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary Church, Bethlehem.
She was a volunteer teacher’s aide at Holy Infancy School, Bethlehem.
She is survived by a daughter, Barbara Jean-Maurer and her husband Daniel Gross; a son, Michael J. and his wife Penny; two sisters, Jane Johnson and Geraldine Ball; six grandchildren, Erik Gross and his wife Melissa, Evan Gross and his wife Helena Kotala, Bridget Gross and her husband Robert Rowe, Jack Schlaner and his wife Ashley, Michael J. Maurer Jr. and Samantha Maurer; and three great-grandchildren, Ethan Gross, Daniel Gross and Jaxon Schlaner.
She was predeceased by a son, Matthew F. Maurer; and a daughter, Sharon A. Schlaner.
