High Street picket fence approved

Alan Lowcher was granted a certificate of appropriateness from the Historical and Architectural Review Board for proposed white picket fencing and trash enclosure for 438 High St. at the March 4 hearing in the Rotunda.

Lowcher explained that he was replacing an existing fence and gate with like materials, color and style. The trash enclosure, measuring five feet wide, three feet deep and six feet high, features white pickets and lattice work.

The approved project also involves extending the bluestone walkway from an existing courtyard to meet the sidewalk.

Lowcher and his wife Patricia own the two and one-half story Federal style residence, which was built circa 1856.

Afterward, Lowcher sought board advice on recommended construction materials for a side porch renovation.

The Historical and Architectural Review Board regularly meets the first Wednesday of every month to review all exterior changes proposed to buildings in the Bethlehem Historic District north of the Lehigh River. When a proposed project receives a certificate of appropriateness from the board, applicants must wait for city council to vote on it before proceeding.
