Student in career night

Bloomsburg

Bloomsburg University of Pennsylvania baseball team, in conjunction with the Department of Alumni and Professional Engagement, recently hosted the program’s second annual baseball career night at Jamison Elementary School, Jamison.

Tyler Wiik of Fogelsville, a criminal justice major, was one of 30 Bloomsburg student athletes who participated in the Jan. 8 event.

The event allowed current BU baseball players to network with university alumni and other team affiliated mentors as they prepare for professional careers.

The students participated in alumni-led networking exercises, panel discussions, and resume reviews.

More than 20 BU alumni participated in the event, including Nick Giuffre, ’78, CEO retired from Bradford White Corporation, Rick Rogers, ’77, senior VP- wealth management for UBS Financial Services, Jason Vavra, ’95, managing member for CVM Wealth and Investment and residential realtor, Phil Stan, ’94.

Bloomsburg University alumnus and principal of Jamison Elementary Matt Croyle, ’95, hosted the event.

“Playing baseball at Bloomsburg is not just about a four-year experience. It’s about preparing for the next forty years,” Huskies head baseball coach Mike Collins said. “Real success requires that we provide our student-athletes with the tools to win on the field and in life. Our alumni, friends, and campus resources are the most impactful tools we have. This night was evidence of that.”

Baseball Career Night is part of a comprehensive effort at Bloomsburg University to equip every student with practical, meaningful experiences and alumni and employer connections, both on campus and in the field, so they are prepared to impact their community and the workplace upon graduation.

This commitment to student success is known as Professional U.
