Bridge Street Family Restaurant to close March 22
When Lisa Haynos and her chef partner, Manuel Castaneda, took over the former Hill’s Restaurant, 215 Bridge St., Catasauqua, they had every intention of making the restaurant a success. The couple brought in former customers and added new ones. They named their business Bridge Street Family Restaurant.
“A lot of our customers came over from Northampton,” Haynos said.
When the landlord wanted to increase the rent, Haynos was dismayed, worrying her margins would be impacted.
Fortunately, the owners of Boxers Bar & Grille, 1069 Main St., Northampton, purchased the assets of the former Miller’s Diner, 1205 Main St., Northampton. The duo recently purchased the former Log Cabin in Coplay and turned it into 2nd St. Tavern.
“They understand taverns, but they bought Miller’s for the house and the parking. They were not interested in the family diner,” Haynos said.
A deal was made, and Miller’s Diner, a Northampton fixture for generations, will reopen as Northampton Diner and Family Restaurant. According to Haynos, the menu will be about the same, and they are open to suggestions from their new clientele.
A March 21 buffet at Bridge Street Family Restaurant will be the last buffet at that location. The restaurant will be open until 3 p.m. March 22.
“We are only going to be a couple of miles down the road. We are hoping that most of our customers join us at the new location,” Haynos said.
The new location is delayed by improvements dictated by PPL Electric Utilities.
“Our goal is to get open before Easter, so we can make sure everything works. Northampton has a very active Sunday-after-church-breakfast market,” she said.
Facebook has exploded with people asking for updates and welcoming the restaurant to Northampton.
The former Miller’s Diner location has a larger dining area.
“We are out looking to hire servers and restaurant staff. People can apply here (Bridge Street Family Restaurant) or on Facebook,” Haynos said.
