Petke earns 2A silver
Bethlehem Catholic freshman Anna Petke clinched the silver medal at the District XI Class 2A Diving Championships this past Saturday at Emmaus High School.
“My first five were probably the best I’ve done in a long time and I thought I did a good job in staying consistent,” Petke said. “ I did my inward 1.5 very well, as well as my back double, and all my twisters, and especially my inward dive.”
Petke’s final score was 305.75.
“I love flipping, so coming to this has just been a really fun time. My coach would tell me something to do right before each dive and was encouraging me throughout the whole day,” said Petke.
Coach Emily Kocis was confident Petke and Moravian Academy’s Alexa Fegley, whom Kocis also coaches, would do very well.
“We had been following the scores throughout the season for the other girls and we were all at the Flips of Fury Meet together, so we were sort of able to gauge what was going on, but definitely with the scores in the dual meets they were posting had them pretty well poised to be in the top,” Kocis said.
Petke and Fegley did a lot of drills and basic work leading up to the district meet.
“Both of them with their reverse dives, getting everything in the water straight up and down with as little splash as possible, and Anna with her reverse dive tuck, getting her feet in the right spot so they come in at the right spot,” said Kocis.
Petke will now compete at the PIAA State Diving Championships on March 13 at Bucknell University.
“It’s been a wonderful time, meeting new people and overall, just great,” said Petke. “It was very fun. I loved it a lot.”
