Freedom junior Sarah Gill placed fifth at the District XI Class 3A Diving Championships on Saturday at Emmaus High School.
“Sarah’s performance today was good,” said Patriot diving coach Emily Kocis. “There were a couple dives I’ve seen her do better at practice, but I think over time, a lot of the dives Sarah’s doing right now are newly done in pike, so she’s just been doing them this season and over more practices and more meets, she will be more consistent with getting those.”
Gill, whose final score was 369.70, was in sixth place after the first five dives and moved up to fifth place after eight dives where she stayed after 11 dives.
“I felt good about my back twist. I do three, and I felt pretty good about all of them. I got up higher than I usually do,” Gill said. “I have my voluntaries right before my optionals and my voluntaries were good but some of my optionals weren’t, so it was up and down. My reverse 1.5 and my back 1.5 are kind of new and they were OK.”
Also from Freedom, Fallon Tatlow finished in 11th place with a score of 305.55, and Cailin Connelly finished in 16th place with a score of 268.10. There were 18 female divers in all.
“Caili is a very strong diver and as long as you remind her to take a deep breath and all of that, she’s good,” Kocis said.
Parkland’s Lexi Lehman was the Class 3A district champion with a score of 422.05. Parkland’s Alexa Brinker was second with a score of 409.50, Easton’s Olivia Jacobsen was third with a score of 398.20, and Parkland’s Kate Gottwald placed fourth with a score of 380.70.
