The Emmaus wrestling team finished a solid 2019-2020 campaign with an eighth place finish at the District 11 3A tournament on Feb. 21-22 at Liberty High School Memorial Gym.

The squad finished with 107.5 points, with the Nazareth Blue Eagles claiming the championship with 291.5 points.

Three Green Hornets - Kordell Waiters at 138 pounds, Jared Groller at 170, and Caden Wright at 182 stood out. Groller and Wright each took third place with outstanding performances. Groller pinned Nazareth’s Joseph Capobianco in 2:11 in the third-place match, while Wright earned a 4-3 decision over Liberty’s Kevin Hennessy.

“I’m just excited about this match and I’m going to go for it,” Groller said before the match. “It would be huge and it would be nice to be a three seed going into regionals.”

Waiters pinned Northampton’s Christian Fritz in 3:40 during the consolation third-round match.

“I already wrestled this kid twice and I’ve already beat him twice, so I’m just going out there and wrestle the way I know how to wrestle and hopefully come out on top,” Waiters said before the match.

Waiters could not keep it going in the fifth place match, however, falling to Easton’s Brett Scalzo, 7-1.
