Weisenberg students shine bright at awards ceremony

The Weisenberg Elementary second awards ceremony of the 2019-20 school year produced a multitude of smiles and lots of awards.

From kindergarten to fifth grade, many students received awards ranging from creativity to the coveted double diamond, having excellent grades and exemplary behavior.

Some students also received awards for being great recess helpers, monitoring activity on the playground.

“The students are motivated by awards,” Weisenberg Elementary Principal Jill Berlet said. “They appreciate these awards. They may not say it, but they do.”

Some students are frequent winners.

“We do see an increase in awards among the different grades,” Berlet added. “Students are motivated to do better each marking period.”

Some students are aware of their progress, others are astonished.

First-grade student Emily Carl won the Music Achievement Award.

“I was surprised,” she said. “I didn’t expect it.”

Berlet explained that Weisenberg teachers compile the grades, reports and achievements of their students.

They then select those students who did the best in each category.

There will be two more award ceremonies this year.
