Firefighters honor memory of Forrest F. Hausman
Members of the local firefighting community honored the memory of Forrest F. Hausman, 85, of Breinigsville, who died Feb. 13, 2020, in Lehigh Center, Macungie.
The funeral service for Hausman, former fire chief and fire police captain of Good Will Fire Company No. 1, 7723 Hamilton Blvd., Trexlertown, was held Feb. 20.
A viewing with firefighter honors took place Feb. 19 at Schmoyer Funeral Home, 8926 Brookdale Road, Breinigsville.
A second viewing was held Feb. 20, and after the service a firefighter’s procession was made to Good Will Fire Company No. 1 where a firefighter’s last call service took place.
Hausman was an active member of Good Will for 60 years, from 1957-2017, and in addition to serving as fire chief and fire police captain, he was assistant fire chief and vice president.
He was selected to be parade grand marshal for the 100th anniversary of the fire company by the membership in 2016 and was the longest active member of the fire company since its founding in 1916.
He and his wife Joanne L. (Gruver) Hausman were married 55 years last December.
Born in Fogelsville, he was a son of the late Woodrow and Hilda (Held) Hausman.
He worked for Upper Macungie Township for more than 20 years before retiring as road foreman.
He assisted Schmoyer Funeral Home with traffic control for more than 25 years.
On June 12, 2018, the membership of the organization elected him fire chief emeritus. In the fire company’s history, he is only the second firefighter to earn this distinguished and eternal title.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by sons Barry L. and Kerry A.; daughter Cynthia A. Weller; sister Althea Hahn; three grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren. Donations in his memory may be made to the Good Will Fire Company No. 1, P.O. Box 13, Trexlertown, PA 18087.
