Orefield man earns team honor

Gettysburg

Gettysburg University’s junior safety Justin Lessel of Orefield, hauled in another weekly award by earning a spot on the D3football.com Team of the Week in October 2019 after picking off a pair of passes in Gettysburg College’s win over Juniata College.

The Centennial Conference Defensive Player of the Week, Lessel became the Bullets’ first representative on the D3football.com weekly team in three years.

He racked up seven tackles and a pair of interceptions in Gettysburg’s win over Juniata, including a 56-yard return for a touchdown to put the Bullets on the board in the first quarter.

The interception return was the longest in six seasons and marked the first interception return for a touchdown in five years.

For an encore, Lessel made an incredible leaping one-handed snag on the Eagles’ final play of the third quarter.

Lessel leads the conference with four interceptions to go along with 35 tackles, three pass break-ups, and a fumble recovery in six outings.
