’Canes defeate FHS boys

Freedom’s boys’ swim team hosted Liberty last Thursday when the Hurricanes defeated the Patriots, 114-50.

It was the Patriots, however, who won the first event of the meet, the 200 medley relay, swum by Andrew Ehret, Eric Mann, Danny Connell, and Luke McClure in 1:50.10.

Liberty’s Patrick Gilhool took first place in the 200 free in 1:54.24, and Sean McGuire won the 200 IM in 2:13.90, followed by Umut Akus and Tim Wetmore, all Hurricanes.

The Hurricanes also had a one-two-three finish in the 50 free led by Addison Collins in 22.26, followed by Andrew Layne, and John Jones.

Liberty’s Kendall Avante won the diving event.

Danny Lehr took first place for the Hurricanes in the 100 butterfly in 1:03.60. Seth Coleman came in second and Owen Reilly came in third for Liberty.

In the 100 free, Liberty’s Daniel Lader finished in first in 53.43, and McClure was second in 53.89.

Ehret won the 500 free in 5:12.08, out touching his teammate, Connell, whose time was 5:12.91.

McClure, Mann, Connell, and Ehret teamed up again to win the 200 free relay in 1:42.30.

Ben Service won the 100 backstroke for Liberty in 1:02.76, and Mann won the 100 breaststroke for Freedom in 1:14.87.

Corbin Eisenhardt, Carson Vella, Owen Reilly, and Jones took first place in the 400 free relay in 3:57.08.
