Mariama Crook gathered some friends Jan. 9 at her consignment shop at 517 Front St., Catasauqua, to celebrate the anniversary of Violet’s Closet.

“I looked at various places, but when I walked into this space, I knew this was the place,” Crook said of finding the location of her shop.

Her successful first year bodes well for her future success.

Jessica O’Donnell, executive vice president of affiliated chambers, Greater Lehigh Valley Chamber of Commerce, was instrumental in bringing this business into the area and helping Crook with planning and marketing.

“The Lehigh Valley Chamber has helped me out a lot,” she noted. “I am happy that I partnered with them and Jessica.”

The celebration included treats for all who came by, and Crook had special celebration prices on some of the merchandise.

Crook named the store in memory of her daughter Violet, who passed away in her early years.

A welcomed guest and strong supporter of Crook’s business is Pastor Ese Duke of Spirit Temple Bible Church, Bethlehem.

In a show of support for Violet’s Closet, O’Donnell invited members of the Lehigh Valley Chamber of Commerce. Rhonda Bastian, Linda Ettl, Cara Butz, John Ferreira and Ashley Simitz came out to support the Catasauqua business.

Kimberly Brubaker and Amy Ahart with Main Streets, Catasauqua’s business association, as well as members of Catasauqua Borough Council and Mayor Barbara Schlegel were also in attendance.

Lehigh County Executive Phillips Armstrong gave opening remarks and awarded a citation noting the anniversary. Michael Dee, chief of staff for state Rep. Jeanne McNeill, D-133rd, also presented a certificate of appreciation.
