Patriot swimmers take on Emmaus
In Freedom’s most recent swim meet against Emmaus, Sarah Gill, Abby Burnette, Andrew Ehret and Danny Connell won individual events for the Patriots last Thursday at Freedom.
Gill won in diving with a score of 244.10.
“My back one-and-a-half pike scored really well. It’s a few weeks old,” Gill said.
“And my one-and-a-half half [scored well]. My back is to the water and then I do a half twist with one flip and then another half and dive in.”
Burnette won two events, the 100 butterfly in 1:04.50 and the 100 breaststroke in 1:13.79.
Ehret also won two events, the 200 IM in 2:07.68 and the 500 free in 5:09.38.
Connell was the winner of the 100 breaststroke in 1:10.43.
In relays, Burnette, Aliah Corrado, Hallie Smith, and Sydney Straka came in second in the 200 medley relay. Straka was able to out touch Emmaus’s Morgan Gould, whose group came in third.
“In practice, I’ve been working on the legs to counteract arms,” Straka said. “It was a close race. Eventually, the girl next to me was coming up behind me and I used my legs to try and get in front of her and I did by tenths of a second.”
Burnette, Straka, Corrado, and Sophie Twiggar were also second in the 200 free relay.
Ehret, Eric Mann, Connell, and Luke McClure just missed second place in the 200 medley relay by .2 seconds, and also placed third in the 200 free relay.
“I felt pretty strong in that, but I was exhausted from the 500. I dropped a lot of time from last year from a 6:29 to a 6:04,” said Mann. “We haven’t won anything, but for such a small team, we can barely make up for all the relays so they get a lot of points from that and we don’t get any. But I feel like we hold up together and do really good in the events.”
