Lehigh County District Attorney Jim Martin has determined the death of 48-year-old Luis Nieves on Jan. 19 in Allentown was a homicide.

According to a release, Nieves attempted a home invasion and robbery on North 11th Street around 5:30 p.m., forcing open a door to attack a juvenile occupant. While Nieves was allegedly beating the victim with a metal cane, the victim struck back with a knife.

Nieves died at Lehigh Valley Hospital-Allentown, and it was ruled justified as self-defense.
