Adam Reinhart and Austin Brett both believe they are battle-tested for upcoming leagues and districts ahead.

They both have endured their share of obstacles along the way and have won most of their challenges much like their team.

Reinhart (195 pounds) and Brett (120 pounds) both had successful days in the always competitive Berwick Duals Jan. 18. Reinhart went 5-0 with a pair of pins, two forfeits and a decision over the five dual meets, while Brett went 4-1 with a pair of falls and forfeits.

Overall, the Rough Riders had a difficult day, losing matches to Berwick (42-39), Montrose (48-30), Conestoga (54-21) and West Scranton (57-29), while defeating Blue Ridge (36-33).

Sophomore 106-pounder Jaryn Hartranft suffered his first defeat of the season (20-1) when he dropped a 7-1 decision to West Scranton’s Austin Fashouer. Aside from his defeat, Hartranft finished the day with three falls and a forfeit.

“I think we could have wrestled a little better, but I think everyone did what they were supposed to do,” said Reinhart, a senior who raised his overall record to 19-4 with 12 falls. “We got back to work at practice the next day so that we could get a good spot in district duals and also get the spots for Colonial league duals.”

Brett, who is a junior with a 15-8 record and nine falls, saw the Berwick Duals as a further galvanizing for himself and his team.

“Berwick was a good tournament and there was some good competition there,” he said. “I felt that I had a pretty good day there and we had to work through it. We feel we are on a good pace toward the end of the season.

“I feel healthy where I am at right now, and I feel like I am going to have a good tournament in the postseason.”

The Roughies had their final league meet against Northwestern Wednesday, one that could affect their standing as one of the four teams to qualify for the Colonial league tournament. They had a 5-2 overall league mark and were undefeated in the West Division tied with Northwestern (4-3) with a 4-0 divisional slate.

From there, the Roughies will participate in the Coal Cracker Tournament this weekend at Lehighton before the league tournament begins Monday.

“Northwestern is a big meet for us,” added Reinhart. “We just have to keep at it and get ready for districts.”
