FHS girls knock off Pocono Mt. East

Freedom’s girls’ swim team defeated Pocono Mountain East, 94-84, last Thursday at Freedom.

“Definitely our relays and our two breaststrokers Hallie Smith and Aliah Corrado really pulled it together and swam their butts off,” said Freedom coach Alisha Roscioli.

Corrado, along with Sage Hillier, Abby Burnette, and Deborah Belen, out touched PME for the win in the 200 medley relay with a time of 2:04.52 to the Cardinals’ time of 2:05.94.

In return, the Cardinals out touched the Patriots’ 200 free relay team of Smith, Cailin Connelly, Jasmine Chiu, and Monika Ryszewska, 1:59.64 to 2:00.12.

In the 400 free relay, PME took first place, but Freedom won points for second and third places.

Top times for Freedom’s girls in individual events were Ryszewska in the 200 free in 2:25.78, Burnette in the 100 butterfly in 1:04.41, and Corrado in the 100 breaststroke in 1:17.54.

“Aliyah, she swam the breaststroke and then turned around and immediately swam the relay

and really pulled it off,” Roscioli said. “The girls practice and love to swim and it’s in their DNA. They want it and they get it.”

In diving, Freedom’s Sarah Gill took first place with a score of 204.70.

“Our divers have already made districts and they’re a great support for our team,” said Roscioli. “About four or five girls (along with four boys) are going to districts. We do have a decent amount, but I still want to get some more in there. We still have six more meets in the season, so I’m hoping they can pull it off.”

This week the Patriots will host Emmaus on Thursday.
