LEHIGH VALLEY WEATHER

IN FOCUS

The new kid on the Northwestern Lehigh block is William Dovico, who is about six years into his role as principal of Northwestern Lehigh Middle School.

But he’s a local guy, having been in the area quite some time.

He earned degrees from Kutztown University and Penn State, and is currently working on a graduate degree from Lehigh University.

His favorite sport is baseball.

“I coach my son’s team in Laurys Station, but I love to watch it here as well,” Dovico said. “I’ve promised myself to attend three games of all the different kinds of sports we have here at the middle school.”

Dovico’s favorite ice cream is vanilla.

“With vanilla you can instantly taste the quality of the ice cream now,” he explained.

His favorite thing about school is the interaction with students.

“We have a great group of kids,” he said.

His least favorite task about school is all the paperwork.

“We must compile, date and generate reports,” Dovico explained. “I don’t like being stuck in my office, but some reports must be written for the state.

“It takes so much time and it keeps me from doing what I love to do -being around students.”

Dovico discussed the middle school students’ interaction with elementary students.

He said the middle-schoolers go to the elementary school and read to the younger students.

“It develops a positive bond among the students,” Dovico said.
