East Allen appoints council positions

With the election of a new member of council, East Allen Township held its reorganization meeting Jan. 6.

Christopher Cruz is the newly elected member of the board of supervisors. Mark Schwartz was re-elected to the board.

Once the new members were sworn in, the board voted to retain most of the existing team.

Roger Unangst was elected as chairman, and Mark Schwartz was elected as vice chairman. Rose Wedde will continue as treasurer, and Brent Green will remain township manager.

The township engineer will continue to be Hanover Engineering, and CodeMaster will serve as code enforcement officer. According to Green, the township is looking for a full-time zoning officer. Joseph Piperato was retained as solicitor.

On committee assignments, Bruce Millheim will serve on the vacancy board. Ross Makany and Frank Flemish were appointed to the parks and recreation board. David Mouen and Kurt Smith were appointed to the planning commission. Mike Campbell and Tom Long were appointed to vacancies on the zoning hearing board, and Adolf Marth was appointed as alternate.

There are a few key dates on the calendar for January.

A conditional use hearing is scheduled for 7 p.m. Jan. 23 for the property owned by Imperial Realty. The company is asking to restructure its commercial property to remove several small job shop buildings and replace them with a larger warehouse. The property is presently zoned commercial.

The curative amendment hearing between East Allen Township and Rock Lehigh Valley, a subsidiary of Rockefeller Group, is scheduled for 7 p.m. Jan. 27 at the Allen Township Fire Company.

Rockefeller is seeking reconsideration from the township because it was denied a zoning change for development off Weaversville Road.

Rockefeller reports it is constructing a logistics center, as opposed to a warehouse, and says the zoning rules do not contain any specifications for a logistics center. The development company contends a logistics center and a warehouse are two different businesses.
