North Whitehall board readies for the new year
As with every township of the second class in the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania, North Whitehall supervisors carried out their yearly board reorganization session on Jan. 6.
Ronald Heintzelman was appointed board chairman while Supervisor Mark Hills was designated vice chairman.
Brenda Norder will continue her role as township secretary, treasurer and chief pension administration officer, and Christopher Garges was reappointed to serve as township manager.
Additionally, Attorney Lisa Young was reappointed solicitor for the board of supervisors and planning commission.
Keystone Consulting Engineers will remain the general planning, traffic and sewage project engineers for the township, and will also serve as alternative zoning, sewage and code enforcement officers.
Supervisors also agreed to the appointment of Barry Isett and Associates, Keycodes Inspection Agency, and Lehigh Valley Inspection Service as primary, third-party code compliant agencies for building plan reviews and inspections.
For the numerous board appointments; Sheila Horwith was appointed to the zoning hearing board from 2020-2022. Terry Hoffman was nominated as the alternative to fill Horwith’s unexpired term until December 2021.
Reappointed to the building codes board of appeals were Scott Bigley, Tim Beil and Ronald Sell for one-, two- and four-year terms, respectively.
Scott Bieber was selected to continue as the sewage enforcement officer.
Terri Blazofsky will continue as tax collector, with the authorization to bill interims and collect real estate and streetlight taxes.
The board also approved a measure to retain Portnoff Law Associates to collect delinquent streetlight taxes.
Supervisors chose to appoint Donald Norder to the board of auditors to fulfill the unexpired term of Donald Steffy until the end of 2021. Christopher Moughan and Richard Semmel were selected to serve three-year terms on the planning commission, while supervisor Dennis Klusaritz will serve as the board representative on the same commission.
Hills was appointed as the board of supervisors’ representative on the recreation board. Additionally, the board approved Carl Gillikin to serve as an alternative representative to the Ironton Rail-Trail Oversight Committee.
Finally, Charles Horwith was selected to serve as chairman of the vacancy board for the new year.
Board of supervisor meeting dates will be the first Monday of each month with the exception of May and September, which will be on the second Monday of each month.
The zoning hearing board will meet on the third Wednesday of each month. Planning commission meetings are scheduled for the fourth Tuesday of the month except for December. The December planning commission meeting will be on Dec. 17.
The recreation board will meet on the third Monday of January, March, July and September, and lastly the farmland preservation and open space board meetings will be on the second Tuesday of February, April, July and October.
All meetings will be at 7:30 p.m.
During the meeting the board also approved the 2020 township holidays. Halloween celebrations are scheduled for 6-8 p.m. Oct. 30 with no rain date.
