Events to mark MLK Day

The Dr. Martin Luther King Civil Rights Movement March will be held rain or shine on Jan. 20. The procession will begin at 11:30 a.m. in front of the St. Bernard’s Beneficial Society, 333 Brodhead Ave., and proceed to the memorials to both Dr. King and his wife Coretta Scott King at Martin Luther King Park, Carlton Avenue.

Guest speakers scheduled are Liberty HS Principal Harrison Bailey III and Northampton County Councilman Kerry Myers. All residents, municipal employees, community groups and law enforcement agencies are invited to attend. There will be a reception at the St. Bernard’s Beneficial Society immediately following the ceremony.

Rotunda observance

The Bethlehem NAACP and the Bethlehem YWCA will co-host the Annual Holiday Observance for Civil Rights Leader Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. at 1 p.m. Jan. 20 in the City hall rotunda, 10 E. Church St., 18018. The event is free and open to the public.

The 2020 theme, of the same name, is based off the Sam Cooke song “A Change is Gonna Come,” written by him in 1963 as a result of his frustrations during the height of the Civil Rights Movement.

The guest speaker Sara Manzano-Díaz, Esquire, who has an esteemed legal career in public service at both the state and federal level.
