Members of Northampton County Militia, founded in 1775, and George Taylor House Association garbed in 18th-century period dress for a Twelfth Night colonial celebration Jan. 4 at the historic George Taylor House, Lehigh and Poplar streets, Catasauqua.

The community was invited to the event, which is based off the superstitious belief that having your Christmas ornaments up after the 12th day after Christmas was bad luck.

The sponsors of the event gave tours of the grand mansion and its summer house.

Another sponsor, Taylor House Brewing Company, 76 Lehigh St., Catasauqua, provided nonalcoholic apple cider and a brewed apple cider containing alcohol.

Homemade cookies, baked by the 18th-century women re-enactors, were given to those who attended. Various other items were for sale to support GTH.

Volunteer Ryan Strawn, of Bethlehem - whose ancestor Jost Dreisbach was a colonel in the Continental Army and is buried at the historic Zion’s Stone United Church of Christ cemetery in Kriedersville - provided tours of the summer house, including its smoke house and root cellar.

Rick Guth dressed as George Taylor and provided GTH tours. He is president of the GTH Association and a 15-year volunteer with the group.

The association’s bylaws are completed, and its effort to garner an IRS 501(c)3 status is near completion, Guth said. Within the next two weeks, a new roof will be installed.

Guth sees the association’s goals in 2020 as getting the 501(c)3 and then working to secure the necessary funds to make the GTH property a jewel in the borough.
