Potts Doggie Shop, Northampton, is holding a special fundraising day Jan. 12 for Sarah Ramos, a Northampton Area High School student fighting a battle with cancer. All proceeds from the Sarah’s Day at Potts event will benefit Ramos.
Mark and Bob Mazziotta, owners of the 2428 Cherryville Road restaurant, are joining the battle to assist the 17-year-old Moore Township teen, who has been diagnosed with a rare stage-four cancer.
“Sarah owns the restaurant Jan. 12, from when it opens at 10 a.m. until closing at 8 p.m.,” Mark Mazziotta said.
Proceeds from everything - soda, chips, hot dogs, steak sandwiches, pierogies and more - go to Ramos.
The brothers and staff agreed they are more than willing to provide their time, without compensation, on behalf of Ramos.
She is being treated at Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia, with brief stays in the Lehigh Valley for medical treatment.
Mark Mazziotta noted Ramos’ upbeat demeanor is an inspiration to himself and others. He commented she came into the shop recently in a body cast, having broken some bones in her fragile condition, just to express her thanks.
The Mazziottas have a long-standing tradition of helping those with medical issues. It began several years ago when their sister Marie Annette was diagnosed with breast cancer. They held fundraisers for her until her death.
Ever since then, the brothers continue to hold fundraisers for those with medical problems, especially young people.
In the past, their events have had a high level of interest and participation from the community. It is expected Jan. 12 will be no different.
