Dr. Augustine I. Dalton Jr., 77, of Macungie, died Dec. 31, 2019. He was the husband of Carolyn (Harris) Dalton. They celebrated their 54th wedding anniversary in August. Born in Richmond, Va., he was a son of the late Augustine I. Dalton Sr. and Grayce (Barden) Dalton.

He graduated from Thomas Dale High School in 1961, Virginia Military Institute in 1965 and received his doctorate from the University of South Carolina in 1972.

He was a veteran of the U.S. Army, serving during the Vietnam war.

He was a research chemist for Air Products and Chemicals, Allentown, for 24 years, retiring in 1997.

He was a member of First Baptist Church of Allentown and the American Chemical Society.

He especially enjoyed his family and spending time with his grandchildren.

He is survived by his wife; son, Eric and his wife, Susan, of Macungie; daughter, Lisa Marie and her husband, Jeff Cheatham, of Charles Town, W. Va.; brother, Clinton II and his wife Janice, of Louisa, Va.; sisters, Carolyn Shank of Topping, Va. and Kay and her husband, Jerry McDaniel, of Chester, Va.; grandchildren, Abigail, Mitchell, Austin, Samuel and Amanda; Brady Cheatham. He was predeceased by a sister, Judy Goodwin and a granddaughter, Aubrey Cheatham.
