Catty Borough reorganizes

Newly elected Catasauqua Borough Council members Paul Cmil and Cameron Smith, along with re-elected Councilman Brian McKittrick, took the oath of office during the borough council reorganization meeting Jan. 6.

Catasauqua Mayor Barbara Schlegel had the gavel as she ran the election of council president and vice president.

Vince Smith was nominated without an opponent and received a 5-2 vote for the office of president.

Brian Bartholomew and Brian McKittrick were both nominated for the seat of vice president, setting up a contested election. Bartholomew was nominated first, followed by McKittrick.

According to Jeff Dimmich, borough solicitor, the first to receive four votes won the office. Bartholomew received three votes in favor. McKittrick received four votes.

By a vote of 4-3, McKittrick was elected council vice president.

After various appointments were made, the meeting was adjourned.
