Halloween has come and gone, and it’s crazy to think the end of the first marking period is upon us! All things FALL are upon us ... and the school year is picking up steam with no signs of slowing down.

HST will hold its annual Veterans Day Assembly 2 p.m. Nov. 8. This is always a great presentation and the kids always enjoy supporting our veterans.

Salisbury High School will hold a community Veterans Day program Nov. 11. Patriotic music will be played upon arrival 4:30-5 p.m. A free dinner will be served 5-6 p.m. Speaker presentations by veterans from World War II, Korean War, Vietnam War, Cold War, Persian Gulf and the War on Terror will begin 6:15 p.m. and end 8:30 p.m. All are welcome. Open gym for anyone in grades seven through 12 interested in trying out for the basketball cheerleading squad will be held 6-7:30 p.m. Nov. 6, 7, 13 and 14 in the SHS old gym. Wear cheer shoes or flat soled shoes, gym shorts and T-shirts. Hair must be pulled back. Also remember no jewelry and to bring water. Baseline ImPACT testing will be held for all winter sport athletes (middle school, junior high, junior varsity, varsity basketball, wrestling, swimming, cheerleading). A baseline ImPACT test is a requirement to participate in SMS/SHS athletics. This is not for Salisbury Youth Association. Student athletes need a new baseline test every year at the middle school level and every two years at the high school level. Testing takes approximately 30-40 minutes to complete. Test dates are as follows: 3 p.m. Nov. 6. (in the high school library), 5:30 p.m. Nov. 6. (in Room 005), 3 p.m. Nov. 7 (in the high school library), 5:30 p.m. Nov. 7. (in Room 005). If you have an extra external mouse, bring it along. This will allow them to have more students after school complete the ImPACT together. Students must not be late, otherwise they will have to sign up for another time. Once the testing has begun no one will be permitted to enter the room as this is a distraction to test takers. The Salisbury Twirlers will host a designer purse and Thirty-One bag bingo Nov. 10 at SMS. Doors open noon and bingo starts 1 p.m. Advance tickets are available through any twirler or via salisburytwirlingboosters@gmail.com. Tickets at the door are higher priced.

The SHS Blood Drive will be held noon to 7 p.m. Nov. 11. SHS students and staff can sign up during lunch or see Olivia Hoeing or Baxter Reihman to schedule an appointment. The blood drive is open to the public 2:45-7 p.m. Appointments during this time can be scheduled by visiting www.GIVEaPINT.org and using the Sponsor Code #0490. The PIAA is looking for officials for all sports. The last few years, the numbers of officials and umpires have drastically dropped, to the point of almost threatening some sports from being played. An electronic recycling and document shred day will be held at HST, 1400 Gaskill St., Allentown, 9 a.m. to noon Nov. 16. The event is hosted by state Rep. Jeanne McNeill, D-133rd, and Salisbury Township. Items recycled free of charge include desktop and laptop computers, keyboards and mice, printers/fax machines, cables and cords, cellphone and laptop batteries, calculators and adding machines, UPS battery backups, DVD and VCR players, gaming systems, string Christmas lights, toner and ink cartridges, audio visual equipment, telephones and cellphones. Items which can be recycled for a fee include CRT monitors, LCD monitors, televisions under 40-inches and televisions in wooden cabinets, projection or over 40 inches. There is also free document shredding services onsite with a limit of 10 boxes per car.
