During the March 5 Lower Macungie Township Board of Commissioners meeting, a new solicitor was chosen – David Brooman from Gordon & Rees, LLP/High Swartz, LLP. This solicitor provided the highest bid.

Commissioners said this was a difficult decision to make. Workshops were conducted and five bids received were narrowed down to three.

Commissioner Brian Higgins expressed his three areas of concern: difficult to change, costs and expertise. Changing the solicitor along with the auditor and the engineer is a lot of change at one time. The firm’s charges will be greater than the present firm. It could put legal fees over budget.

The solicitor was approved by a vote of 3-2.

In other business, the parking lot expansion for Pratt Industries on Alburtis Road was approved. It is a minor change.

Township owned farmland will be farmed by Lehigh Tree and Turf from Hilltop Road in Mertztown. Daniel Hunsicker is the owner of this business and has previously done the work. The bid of $13,500 was the highest of two.

The Plowboys Club is requesting use of 10 acres of farmland, particularly at Kratzer Farm. They are looking to conduct demonstrations. The club has approximately 200 members and is based in Kutztown. This could lead to further interest by the group.

There was an executive session prior to the meeting. It was about the solicitor choice.
