Catasauqua’s wrestling team has managed some quick starts this season due to the top of its lineup this season with Jacob Nye and Jaryn Hartranft setting the pace as one of the top ranked wrestlers in their respective weight class.

Yet, the Rough Riders bottom of the lineup also has caused it share of damage.

Seniors Adam Reinhart (182, 195), Zachary Scheirer (220) and Lavonte Bouie (285) have been the team’s perfect trifecta to round out the lineup for the Roughies.

Reinhart, who was a runner-up at 182 in the Jim Thorpe Holiday Tournament, has an overall 8-3 mark. Bouie, third at the Jim Thorpe, has an overall record of 8-4. Hartranft won the title at 113.

Other top finishers at the tournament were Cole Brown, third at 132; Jacob Nye, fourth at 106; Gavin Fehr, fourth at 120; Austin Brett, fifth at 126; Luis Del Rosario, sixth at 160; and Donovan Gair, eighth at 195. Scheirer went 1-2 on the day at 220, and his record stands at 6-4. Scheirer was 6-17 overall last season.

Head coach Joe Russo was pleased with the team’s individual showing as well as his team’s fourth-place finish from the 20-team field.

“Absolutely,” beamed Russo. “We saw some things especially from the part of the lineup that has been struggling.

“It was fun to watch the team come together to try and accumulate points for the team race.”

Russo is confident his trio can make an impact over the next two months.

“Adam (Reinhart) and Lavonte (Bouie) are dangerous for opponents because they both are so physical, and they aren’t afraid to get inside and throw you,” said Russo. “Zach (Scheirer) is methodical and always thinking and controlling his opponents.

“These are the guys who challenge you as a coach and make you find ways to help them reach their individual goals at the end of the season. We start strong with the first five weights, and these guys are the hammers at the end.”

Reinhart expects to reach his full potential soon and believes his team can have a solid season.

“For me, it has been a little difficult because of having only one week of practice before the start of the season because of football. But I’m in the groove and ready to go far into the postseason.

“This season is going really well so far. Every guy wrestles hard and doesn’t give up anything easy. We have a full lineup that really helps with dual meets.

“Coach has been really working us and wanting to get Catty back on top again. We have a good shot against a lot of teams. Saucon (Valley) is our only loss this year. We are hoping to get back to leagues this year and bring home some hardware.”

Bouie and Scheirer also both see a positive outlook for themselves and the team.

“We working hard and facing challenges that come our way,” said Bouie. “I like my season, but there are a few more kinks that I have to work out to be able to reach my goals.”

“I think the season is going very well right now,” added Scheirer. “Everyone on the team is extremely focused and has goals that they would like to accomplish by the end of the year. All together as a team, we are taking one week at a time and helping each other as much as possible.”
