Northampton Borough Council approved the development of 40 proposed town houses at its meeting Dec. 19.
Northampton Residential LLC, of Whitehall, was given the consent by council on the recommendation of the borough planning commission, which met Dec. 11, to proceed with plans to build town houses north of the CVS and Redner’s Quick Shoppe on West 21st Street, at the site of the former Cross Country Clothes garment factory.
There had been similar plans for the site five years ago from Posh Construction, of Bethlehem, but the project never came to fruition.
There was no comment by council - only the vote - at the Dec. 19 meeting. The only dissent came from Councilman Anthony Lopsonzski Sr., who stated a firm “no” vote.
At previous council meetings, Lopsonzski Sr. made his feelings known that he doe not approve of the residential development. He would instead like to see commercial or industrial development on the site.
The town house project was otherwise approved contingent on several conditions. Representatives of Northampton Residential LLC reported construction of the town houses should get underway in spring 2020.
